There’s no messing around with this smoothie. It’s no fluke that Nelson calls this, “Pack-a-Punch”. This smoothie is jam packed with tasty, guilt-free healthy goodness.
Just before Christmas, Nelson spent time researching the smoothie craze. He found that, if done right, these healthy cupfuls might actually help him stay full and avoid unhealthy snacking between meals. So for Christmas, Nelson got a shiny brand new Salton Harley Pasternak High Performance 2 HP Blender (the company is not paying us to mention this product…we just really like it). The beauty of these types of high-powered, high-end blenders is that they can pulverize anything! This was really important to Nelson because he doesn’t like grainy textured smoothies.
Something to note about Nelson is that if he doesn’t like something, he won’t stick with it (ehem… gym memberships). That meant that these smoothies had to be very smooth and taste amazing, otherwise the blender would surely be set outside at our next garage sale.
There are literally thousands of smoothie recipes out there. Nelson first worked on figuring out a good base and the right ratios for tasty smoothies. With that worked out, he then experimented with other ingredients to make the smoothies even healthier while maintaining the great taste. He finally landed on a few that he now makes on a regular basis. This particular recipe is one of his favourites. Besides being delicious, it’s filling and when he drinks one for breakfast, it keeps him going until lunch–which keeps him away from less healthy options at the coffee shop near work. I’d call that a win-win!
These smoothies aren’t, on their own, the answer to a healthy life and weight loss, but Nelson sees this as his start to a more holistic approach to better health. With the nicer weather approaching, he’ll be enjoying some bike rides (he likes riding, so he doesn’t consider it exercise) with the kids and that, coupled with healthier eating, is the approach he is taking to improving his health.
We hope you enjoy the recipe.
