Chef Mark McEwan’s Bymark Lobster Grilled Cheese from Chefdrop

Chefdrop for a restaurant experience at home

We were thrilled to partner with our friends at Chefdrop for a wonderful, elevated restaurant experience, right in our own home. This lobster grilled cheese sandwich is absolutely delicious. It’s definitely not the basic sandwich you remember from your childhood. This is a grown-up grilled cheese that’s high-end while still being approachable and familiar. Even though we weren’t eating this at a restaurant, it felt fancy!

You’re food bloggers, why use a meal kit service?

As a home cook and food blogger, I enjoy developing my own recipes, creating new versions of old favourites, and even recreating favourite meals from my Portuguese roots. But occasionally, I also want to indulge in the finer things, with minimal effort and mess. Sometimes this means going out to a nice restaurant, but now it can also mean a meal kit delivered to your doorstep. A meal kit packed neatly and safely with fresh, high-quality ingredients, a recipe card with simple step-by-step instructions, and a photo of the prepared dish so you know what you’re trying to achieve.

Our decadent lobster grilled cheese, with premium poached lobster, brie de meaux, crispy pancetta, and garlic aioli on house-made rosemary focaccia, was next level. The endive pear salad with citrus dressing was the perfectly balanced, fresh side. To prepare all the elements separately would have taken a bit of time and effort, but with this meal kit our meal was literally ready in minutes with almost nothing to clean up; and there was definitely no compromise on quality. Now that’s something this home cook can really get behind!

I’m not a very good cook, can I prepare the meals in these kits?

You may be asking yourself this question. In fact, it’s exactly what Liz asked herself. I’m not putting her down–it’s from her own mouth. Everyone who knows Liz has likely heard her say that she lacks confidence in “putting ingredients together” and creating meals from scratch. But when she saw this meal kit she told me to move over because this is, and I quote, “totally my jam” (no pun intended). She said she would definitely spend more time in the kitchen if high-end meals were always this easy to create. It was a definite confidence-booster to be able to make Mark McEwan’s recipe, at home, on our own.

Honestly, Chefdrop makes this really approachable, so anyone can do it. The recipe card provided came with very easy-to-follow preparation and cooking instructions. There was zero guessing about how to cook. And the photo provides visual context for plating. Yours doesn’t need to be plated the same way, but it’s nice to see what you’re working towards if you’re unsure.

Although I’m quite comfortable in the kitchen, I have no chef training. And Liz, who generally doesn’t cook, found it really easy to be successful. We both feel like anyone can prepare these wonderful meals, regardless of culinary expertise.

What chefs does Chefdrop work with?

Chefdrop offers customers in Southern Ontario, a wide selection of premium Drops prepared by notable restaurants and top chefs from across Toronto. Curious? Visit the Chefdrop website for a full list of the chefs they work with.

I am excited to see that several of the chefs and experts I’ve followed for quite some time, are partnered with Chefdrop. People like, Cheese Master Afrim Pristine, Canada’s premier cheese expert and owner of Cheese Boutique, and people like Chef Rob Gentile, executive chef, owner of Buca restaurants, and featured chef on Food Network Canada’s Wall of Chefs. And, of course, Chef Mark McEwan, executive chef, Bymark restaurant, Top Chef Canada judge, bestselling cookbook author, and more. Liz and I have had the pleasure of visiting a couple of Chef McEwan’s restaurants, as well as McEwan’s Groceries. We’ve also enjoyed his many appearances on the Food Network. I’m a bit obsessed with food shows! 😂Well, Liz calls it an obsession… I see it more as dedication. Regardless, the truth is that knowing experts like these folks are behind the Chefdrop meal kits, makes them even more desirable.

We were so excited to receive the Bymark lobster grilled cheese meal kit! How cool is it to be able to cook up a meal, in your own home, that was created by one of your culinary heroes? It’s super cool!

Chefdrop kits make a perfect gift!

It was an absolute pleasure to prepare this meal kit, and we think this would make a perfect gift for friends and family. Maybe a friend who’s looking to cook something fancy, but they’re not very experienced in the kitchen. Or maybe for family members who are still uncomfortable visiting restaurants indoors during the pandemic, but they love the treat of eating out in a nice restaurant. Wouldn’t this be a nice treat!

Never compromise on food quality

Wether you’re cooking up one of our recipes or trying out a meal kit from our friends at Chefdrop, always make sure to use quality ingredients and proven cooking techniques.

Chefdrop provides access to top chef and restaurant prepared meal kits shipped across Southern Ontario.

Note: this is not an affiliate program and we do not receive financial compensation for this; we received a kit to test out, and we honestly enjoyed the meal kit, and their customer service, and that’s why we recommend it.

Their lobster grilled cheese was delicious, and it definitely elevated our grilled cheese game. I will continue creating recipes in my kitchen, but sometimes it’s fun to try new ways to make our day yummy!
